The Swedish Ski Association is seeing results from its long-term and strategic work with the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). Following a decision by the FIS Council, Sweden has been awarded additional World Cup events in the coming seasons, including the men’s Alpine World Cup in Åre next season.

The Association’s efforts to bring more international competitions to Sweden are now delivering concrete results. The decision by the FIS Council in January means, among other things, that Sweden and Åre will host the men’s Alpine Ski World Cup, to be held in Åre on 13–14 March 2027.

– We are incredibly pleased that we can now begin preparations to welcome the world’s best male Alpine skiers for the 2026/2027 season. We know that Åre can deliver competitions of the highest international standard, and we very much look forward to seeing the men’s tour return to Åre, says Olle Danielsson Klippinge, CEO of the World Cup organiser Swedish Ski Association Events AB (Svenska Skidförbundet Events AB).

– This is the result of long-term and systematic work to bring more international competitions to Sweden. It is an important part of our strategic plan to strengthen Swedish skiing and snowboarding, says Pernilla Bonde, Secretary General of the Swedish Ski Association.

Bringing more World Cup events to Sweden is not only about elite sport. Hosting competitions at home provides extensive international exposure through television, social media and international media, strengthens Sweden’s image as a leading winter sports nation, and creates pride among athletes, team staff and spectators.

More competitions in Sweden also create better conditions for athletes through reduced travel and the experience of strong home crowd support. For host destinations and regions, this also brings clear societal benefits in terms of tourism, local engagement and increased visibility.

– The World Cup events in Åre are a home fixture for our national team athletes and an important opportunity for them to meet and inspire young skiers in Sweden. For Åre, it is crucial that we have a stable position in the calendar with recurring events. This means that every year we help place Åre as a brand on the international map, says Olle Danielsson Klippinge.
