ÅRE’s HISTORY

1882

The railway to Åre is built and enables tourism to the Åre valley.

1910

The "Åre project" starts and the first tram up on the mountain is built.

The "Lundsgårdsliften" lift is built.

1954

Åre is host for the World Championships for the first time.

The first World Cup is hosted in Åre.

1971

The first women's World Cup is hosted in Åre.

1976

The gondola "Kabinbanan" is built.

1985

The downhill slope "Störtloppsbacken" is built.

2007

Åre is host for the World Championships for the second time.

2015

World Cup #100 is hosted in Åre.

2019

Åre is host for the World Championships for the third time.

2023

American Mikaela Shiffrin becomes the world's most successful skier with World Cup victory #86 and #87 during the competitions in Åre.
